Case does not matter, even mixing them such as "Ohio-birds" should make no difference. This listprocessor is provided courtesy of EnviroLink. With this listprocessor based in Pennsylvania, most Ohio subscribers should see a message confirming their subscription back in minutes. Indeed all messages sent to ohio-birds typically are distributed to subscriber accounts within 5-10 minutes. This is a very quick means of getting timely information on bird sightings out to the birding community. If you have any difficulties please contact me at dromaius@bright.net
The prime use of the mailing list is for passing along sightings info. and it is NOT restricted to the super rarities of the phone network.
Related issues range from CBC reports, to specific queries after birding locales, habitat conditions, population trends, and identification problems. These however MUST pertain to OHIO. More general topics or those of regional interest are subjects better suited to those forums set up for that discussion. There are some 100 other birding listservs. There are also web-based discussion forums for ohio birding issues.
Basically, if you would discuss it among birdwatchers and it directly impacts ohio birds or birding in the state the topic is welcome. If you are at all uncertain you can check with me.
Selected contents of these sightings will be archived (see above). Bird sightings appear at Ohio Statewide while other topics as they develop will likely be accessible from this page.
Attachments: ALL attachments (e.g. image files, executable files, text files, business card vcf files, etc.) are FORBIDDEN on ohio-birds. Their use opens you account to dismissal from the listserv. Attachments are the means by which computer viruses are spread, they often severely overload email accounts, and disrupt efforts to archive the list.
Your BYLINE: When signing your email your name and a geographical location is required.
Referencing reports: With an increase in reports from far-flung corners of Ohio has come a number of sightings from sites I have never heard of nor from the information provided could I determine there location. Also what might be one Mill Creek can be any one of dozen others in northern Ohio alone. Please give county information for all sites reported on. For sites not often cited please add the township or another more meaningful reference.
To send messages to the list post to
ohio-birds@envirolink.org
Below are the instructions provided by the CREN website for use of Listproc 8.2
The MAIL option requires one of the arguments ACK, NOACK, DIGEST, or POSTPONE. The argument ACK causes ListProc to include you in the distribution of each message you send to a list; NOACK causes ListProc not to include you when you send the message. Thus, Set dummy mail ack causes you to receive a copy of each message you send to the list dummy. The DIGEST option causes you to receive your mail from the specified list in the "digest" collection of messages (including messages you sent to the list) whenever that digest is distributed. SET list-name MAIL POSTPONE causes listproc to exclude you from all list distributions until you send another set list-name mail command with one of the other arguments.
Following the above example to receive a digest send the message
set ohio-birds mail digest
to the address
listproc@envirolink.org
to undo this send the message
set ohio-birds mail ack
which is the default setting.

please note you do not follow the message with your name as you would when subscribing. Like all other commands you are sending a message to a computer for an automated processing. Please do not place anything else, like a signature file within the message.
