Nothing so exciting as yesterday. The day after the front began with dark overcast at sunrise over Cleveland but clearing quickly by 8:00 at Oberlin Beach. Winds were NW at 12-15, 40 deg F.
Oberlin Beach, Erie County - 8:00 am pretty much nothing at all, passing the entrance to Old Woman Creek I noted perhaps 2-300 puddle duck on the mudflat there. Nickel Plate Park, Huron, Erie Co. - 8:15 - 8:45 Double-crested Cormorant - 1560 moving west (less a migration than more likely a bunch of birds getting up from the mouth of Old Woman Creek and drifting over to a point off Sheldon's Marsh where they were congregating all morning. Common Loon - 1 very little else; at best 4000 Red-breasted Mergansers (when there should be 40,000 or more). Huron Pier mudflat - 9:00 about 400 Herring Gulls (99% adult) 2 Great Black-backed Gulls a few Ring-billed and Bonaparte's Gulls 4 Forster's Terns Cedar Point Chausee - 9:30 Swan spp - 28 Killdeer - 6 Dunlin - 400+ Bonaparte's Gull - 1800 Putnam Marsh - anyone know when this may be open to the public. Medusa Marsh - 10:15 fewer waterfowl, although a diversity of puddle ducks remain no egrets, 1 Bald Eagle Bay View - 10:45 nothing much at all East 55th marina in Cleveland - 12:15 about 2800 Bonaparte's Gulls offshore along the outer breakwall scoped these out to discover 24 Common Terns flying amongst them; no odd gulls.
